Gallery Drop-in | Step-by-Step Landscape Painting in Gouache

Sat. April 20th  |  Drop-in between 10:00-2:00pm in the Library Arts Center Gallery

Free! All are welcome to participate.

Drop-in to the gallery to create a similar stunning gouache landscape with guidance and step-by-step instruction from artist Heidi Lorenz. Gouache is opaque watercolor paint, and this drop-in is a great opportunity to explore and experiment with it, while also creating a gorgeous finished art piece. This process is designed to engage artists of all ages and abilities.

All supplies and materials are provided. FREE to participate and all are welcome to come and get creative in the gallery.

Gallery Drop-in | Crafts to celebrate Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month!

Sat. April 27th  |  Drop-in between 10:00-2:00pm in the Library Arts Center Gallery

Free! All are welcome to participate.

Drop in to the gallery to create a variety of fun crafts in celebration of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month (May)!  Participants may choose from making Chinese Dragon Puppets, Indonesian Shadow Puppets, and Japanese Kokeshi Doll Notepads.  This project is designed for artists of all ages and abilities.

All supplies and materials are provided. FREE to participate and all are welcome to come and get creative in the gallery.

Spring Landscape in Watercolor Workshop

After a long winter, the world awakens to the vibrant colors of spring in its natural splendor. In this course, students will learn to paint the beautiful Northeastern landscape in spring in watercolor in the comfort of their own home. . This class is open to all levels with some watercolor experience suggested.

Basket-Making Workshops with Ray Lagasse

The Library Arts Center is proud to offer these exceptional artisan basket-making workshops with artisan Ray Lagasse.  Students will spend a day in the studio learning this traditional craft and will leave with a fabulous heirloom-quality basket to keep or give as a phenomenal gift.  Workshops are typically offered monthly in the Arts Center studio.

Weekly Open Studio Art Group for Adults

Wednesday mornings – ongoing
9:30am-12:30pm.

$8 for LAC members/$12 non-members.

Bring your own art supplies and work on painting alongside a delightful and supportive group of artists. Facilitator Heidi Lorenz will paint alongside all, but is available for light guidance and instruction if desired. This welcoming and friendly drop-in style group is available to artists of all styles and abilities!

Drop in–No pre-registration necessary.

Yoga in the Gallery with Brianna

Friday Mornings| 8:30am + 10:00am in the Gallery

Classes are designed for any student looking to practice yoga. Movement will be linked with breath (as offered by the Hatha and Kripalu traditions of yoga), as well as focus on alignment, and attention paid to honoring your own organic movement. Students can expect to practice both seated and standing poses as well as focus on balance and breath.  Please bring your own mat and any props you would like.

Music with Friends

for infants, toddlers & preschoolers

Wednesday Mornings, 9:30am in the
Library Arts Center Gallery
with instructor Julie Love |   $12 per family, per week 

Experience  making music together in this class designed for babies through five year-olds and their caregivers.  Music will come to life as everyone sings, dances, drums and claps, experimenting with voices, instruments and movement.   *Pre–registration is required.  Sign up online  for specific weeks, or the whole series.

An Apple Cookbook is Coming!

 in Celebration of the 50th Apple Pie Crafts Fair

In celebration of the 50th Apple Pie Crafts Fair coming up in August 2024, we are creating an apple-themed community cookbook! We would love to have your apple recipes in the book.  Send us your best recipes featuring apple in desserts, main dishes, sides, salads etc. to the cookbook.   Send recipes ASAP to applecookbook2024@gmail.com. You can also mail photocopies of your recipe cards to the LAC, or drop them off in our office any time during gallery hours.

Preserving Newport's Heritage Mural
