Drawing: Exploring Materials & Creating Masterpieces in Black & White

Description: There is a lot to black and white--much more
than the basic pencil and sketch book for sure! Explore
new materials
each week, ranging from charcoal to ink to artists pencils
and more while using a variety of papers and surfaces to
draw on. Each
class will start with material demonstrations and guidance.
Then students will be encouraged to explore the materials
while undertaking
a unique art project each week.
Children’s
Holiday Etiquette

Description: All the gift giving and family dinners
surrounding the holiday season make this the best time of year
for children to learn and practice modern cultural etiquette.
Children
will learn the etiquette surrounding gift giving and
receiving. Table
etiquette will be taught as well—from table setting, serving,
passing, eating and conversation. This class will be taught in
a fun and informative format, through instruction, games and practice.
Children will be proud of their new skills and parents will certainly
be proud of the ways their child’s etiquette
blossoms this holiday season. Please specify any diet
restrictions or food allergies
when registering your child. This class will meet in
the Library Arts Center Gallery.

either for decorating their own homes for the holidays,

Miniatures
for dollhouses & fairy
dwellings with polymer clay

Description: Polymer clay is a
great medium to work with, as it
is colorful,
easy to
shape and
sculpt
into small
pieces, and once
baked it is hard and plastic like.
It’s
a great clay for artists interested
in miniatures.
In this
class, children will
work with artist Margaret Dwyer
to create a wide array of miniatures for any or every
room of their
fairy
dwelling or doll house! Create
a dish set, food, vases, clocks,
toys
or any accessories imaginable in the studio.
At the end of the workshop,
students will have creatively
handcrafted miniatures to bring
home to redecorate their fairy dwellings or doll
houses.

Mosaic Making Workshop

Description: Have you ever had the desire to save
broken dishes, collect colorful tiles, repurpose recycled metal
bits and pieces,
collect sea shells and stones etc. to use as medium in
artwork? Then this beginner’s workshop in mosaics may
be for you. Students will learn the basics of mosaics and
will create small
sample mosaic squares in the studio. Bring a few dishes
or bits of collections you would like to use in your mosaic,
or
use materials
supplied in the studio. Everyone will leave the studio
with an individualized mosaic sample piece, along with the
inspiration
and skills needed to create mosaics at home.
Ceramics
with a Moroccan Twist for beginner and intermediate students
Instructors: Suzanne Kaegi

Description: This class will work on hand building and wheel
throwing skills and is designed for both beginner and intermediate
ceramic
students. Suzanne will lead the class through the basics
of ceramics, but with a Moroccan twist! Students will learn
about the ceramic
traditions of Morocco and will be encouraged to incorporate
shapes and designs into their work that are commonly found
in Moroccan
pottery.
Artful
Valentine Workshop
Instructor: Fran Huot

Description: The art of the
valentine—a handwritten sentiment
of love or friendship—has not been lost, even in this age
of digital correspondence. Learn to make unique, handmade valentines
using artful materials such as handmade paper, paints, fibers & found
objects.
Drawing
and the Sketchbook as a Key to a Successful Watercolor
Instructor: Robert O’Brien, AWS NWS
Tuition: $130
Dates/Times: Sat. & Sun., March 3 & 4, 9:30am – 4pm
Enrollment: minimum 5, maximum 10
Description: Robert O’Brien AWS NWS will conduct a two day
workshop focusing on drawing and the importance of a sketchbook
in creating a successful watercolor painting with an emphasis on
values. The workshop will focus on winter landscape painting. The
student will learn basic principles of perspective and how to paint
a “black and white” watercolor in
the sketchbook using water soluble pencils and
a brush. Students will
then create a
thumbnail value sketch using these same materials.
They will then use the sketch as a guide for
a watercolor painting
to
be done
in class. A critique and class discussion will
follow. This class is open to all ability levels.
Materials and sketchbook will be provided by the
students. A materials list will be furnished upon
request.
