Families, artists, patrons and businesses from Newport and the surrounding area have all become members of the Library Arts Center. Their support allows the Arts Center to operate the gallery without an admission fee, to offer the special programs free of charge, and subsidize the arts education program. Members receive advance notice of exhibits, artists' receptions, and classes. Endowment gifts and membership donations are tax deductible. What Keeps the LAC Going?Do you relish the annual Apple Pie Crafts Fair and the Dickens Through December Gallery of Gifts? Have your children attended magic shows at the LAC? Have you used the darkroom? Are your children or grandchildren proud to display their art in the yearly schools show? Have you enjoyed bidding at one of our auctions? Do you show and sell your work here? Were you enriched by a program of music? Are you amazed at the variety, imagination and quality of the shows in the Front and the West galleries? Have you attended credit or non-credit classes? Are you a member of the Newport Camera Club? Have you rented the gallery space for a special meeting or reception? It is easy to take all of this for granted, but in truth, the LAC must struggle each year to keep its doors open. The LAC relies heavily on donations, grants, memberships and business sponsorships to continue its offerings and exhibitions. The town of Newport does provide an annual stipend and combined with the Endowment Fund interest this accounts for about twenty percent of operating expenses. Thus, grants, fundraisers and business & member donations must hopefully make up the shortfall. We are truly grateful to all contributors.
